HONOURS PROJECT - IF YOU HAVE THE SHOES YOU’RE IN
Artist Statement
“If You Have The Shoes You’re In,” Is a time-based performance piece that combines both of my practices, the moving image and dance. It explores the relationship between the two and how they intertwine together to lead my research. Using the moving image as my platform, has enabled me to represent the impact that dance and one’s social identity has on and individual and the way they express themselves. This project explores the relationship that different dancer’s have with the genre tap.
It is a project that shows the unity, sense of community and belonging amongst Tap dancers and how one is not defined by their social identity. Using the screen, allows the work to become an immersive installation, where the audience can have a more intimate connection with the dancers and the performance. It is a project were the camera and editing process has also become part of the performance and choreography.
